Once again, fraudsters are playing on the themes that worry people. Coronavirus (COVID-19) is being used as an excuse to send false mails, text messages, WhatsApp messages with the intention of getting hold of bank details or passwords, cheating people out of their money or installing viruses on your computer.
The messages have one thing in common: cyber criminals pretend to be a legitimate person or organisation and try to win your trust in this way.
As always, the same rules apply for these practices:
- use your common sense and look for information about coronavirus on the government's official website
- be on your guard and only open attachments or click links if you trust the sender. Find out on our website how you can distinguish between reliable messages
- read what types of phishing exist and how you can arm yourself against them
- if you have faced misuse on the internet, be sure to report it to the competent authority
